Timber Frame Porch

Another Wolseley porch, this time timber frame style. 

Starts with tearing out the old deck... and creating a new footing.

Gilles and myself have some crazy ideas. Mansard roof? Maybe a timber framed awning?

The corner joint above the post is based on a Japanese style timber joint with four dovetails:

Douglas Fir Exterior Details

Main Bent, rafters built up from 8/4 stock in order to accomodate existing roof trusses.

Kiln dried Douglas Fir, through mortises with lapped tenons.

End grain sealed with wax.

Pete with the material lift, double tenons on ends of posts.

Lights recessed into posts.

Almost done, cool fall weather.

Porch Re-Construction in Wolseley

A beautiful example of a Wolseley foursquare with craftsman elements.

Slightly dilapidated, doors not closing, windows not opening, the rot is starting to creep up from below...

Jacking the porch back to level with the house is the first job. After that the rotten wood has to go (mostly at ground level or near vegetation). Then new footings and a floor beam go in.

The final product is a reclaimed porch with new skirting, stairs, metal roof, cedar deck and railing.
